Abstract
This study was undertaken to identify clinicopathological risk factors in 148 women with stage IB carcinoma of the cervix treated surgically with or without postoperative radiotherapy from Feburary 1975 to December 1983. Histologic factors
included
tumor size, depth of invasion, presence of vascular invasion, histologic grade, and metastases to lymph nodes. Tumor size was found to be the only important prognostic factor for 5-year NED (no evidence of diseases) rates(P<0.05) land tumor size
also
correlated significantly with metastases to lymph nodes (P<0.05). Depth of invasion, presence of vascular invasion, histologic grade, and metastases to lymph nodes did not significantly affect 5-year NED rates(P>0.05). the recurrence rate was
higher in
the patients with positive resection margin(P<0.05) and also was higher in patients who had bulky primary tumor(P<0.05). There was no signiticant difference in recurrence rate between operation alone and operation plus postoperative radiotherapy
in
high
risk group(P>0.05). The recurrence rate between patients with one and two or more lymph node metastasis was significant difference (P<0.05).
